Ring’s Alarm Pro base station is solid. Dual-band WiFi, built-in Eero router, cellular backup, and a clean app experience. The contact sensors feel durable. The motion detectors have had zero false positives in 14 months, which is more than I can say for a competitor system we tried previously.
The Business Model
Here is what you need to know: without a Ring Protect subscription ($10-20/month), your cameras save no video history. Motion alerts go out, you check the app, and there’s nothing to see. The cameras become notification devices. This is not a hardware limitation — it’s a deliberate business decision that the marketing materials understate.
