Power vs. Usability
The Greenworks 80V brings legitimate battery-powered performance. On a 70% throttle setting it handles ornamental grass clumps that defeat lighter trimmers. At full throttle it approaches the feel of a commercial gas trimmer. The cutting performance is not in question.
The usability question is different. The bump-head line loading requires threading line through a specific path, winding in a specific direction, and reassembling without the line jumping out — a procedure that requires several attempts if you haven’t done it recently.
What We Like
- 80V battery provides genuine power for thick grass and weeds
- Runs 45 minutes — enough for most residential lots
- Brushless motor runs quietly and efficiently
- Shaft adjusts for different heights
What We Don’t
- Line loading on the bump-head is unnecessarily complicated
- Guard limits visibility when edging
- Balances poorly — heavy battery end causes wrist fatigue
- Line feeds inconsistently in thick material
I watched three YouTube videos to learn how to reload the trimmer head. That should not be necessary.

The Bottom Line
Powerful trimmer with usability rough edges. Consider the Ego equivalent if ergonomics matter to you.
