I mowed with gas for 12 years. One season with the Ego and I’ve stored the gas can.
One Season of Data
Our lot is approximately 13,000 sq ft (0.3 acres) of actual grass area. The Ego 21″ self-propelled mower mows it on one charge with approximately 15 minutes of battery remaining at a medium cut height. At a lower cut height or in thick summer growth, we get to about 35 minutes of cutting before the charge indicator moves significantly.
What We Like
- Cuts 45 minutes on one charge — covers our 1/3 acre twice
- No maintenance beyond blade sharpening
- Starts every time, immediately — life-changing after gas
- Genuinely quiet enough for early morning mowing
What We Don’t
- Battery takes 40 minutes to recharge
- Upfront cost higher than comparable gas mower
- In tall wet grass, slightly less aggressive than gas
I mowed at 7am last Sunday without disturbing my neighbors. That alone is worth the price premium.
Owned for 14 months before this review was published.
The Bottom Line
Best mower for lots under 1/2 acre. Gas mowers have no advantages that matter for residential use.
