A keypad lock integrated with Google Home. After 16 months: reliable, occasionally annoying, never failed to let us in.
16 Months of Keyless Entry
The premise is simple: you set a code, you type a code, the door opens. The Nest x Yale has delivered exactly that for 16 months without a single lockout. We have four active codes — ours, our dog walker, my in-laws, and a house cleaner — and the activity log has been useful twice (confirming the cleaner showed up when we couldn’t reach them, and confirming our dog walker used the code when our dog went missing from the yard).
What We Like
- Never uses a physical key — genuinely worry-free
- Guest codes work reliably every time
- Auto-lock after set time gives real peace of mind
- Google Home integration is seamless
What We Don’t
- Requires Nest Connect or Nest Hub for remote access — extra hardware
- Battery life is 3-4 months — more maintenance than expected
- No Apple HomeKit support
I haven’t used a physical house key in 16 months. The day I need to it’ll be because my phone died and I’ll deserve the inconvenience.
Owned for 16 months before this review was published.
The Bottom Line
Best smart lock if you’re in the Google ecosystem. Check compatibility before buying if you’re on Apple.
