We replaced five toilets in a house renovation. All five are now Toto Drake IIs. Here’s why.
Why Toilets Matter
A toilet is used approximately 2,500 times per year per person. Over a decade, the average household toilet flushes 50,000+ times. A toilet that clogs, runs, or requires replacement is not a minor inconvenience — it’s a decade of wasted time and money. The Toto Drake II has been reviewed here because we put five of them in a house and 18 months later, in a household of four, none have clogged once. That outcome was not true of the builder-grade American Standard units they replaced.
What We Like
- Double Cyclone flush eliminates almost all bowl maintenance
- Uses 1.28 gallons per flush — water savings are real
- Elongated comfort height works for adults of all sizes
- Parts are universally available and inexpensive
What We Don’t
- Seat sold separately — budget accordingly
- Lead time from some suppliers is 2-4 weeks
- Finish can show water spots in hard water areas

The Bottom Line
Best toilet for the money. The category feels absurd to review but this is the right answer.
